Position Description:
Position: Archaeology Technician
Proposed Internship Dates: June 6 to August 12, 2011
Total Proposed Hours Per Week: 40 hours/full time
Proposed Total Hours: 400 hours
Proposed Wage: $12.00 per hour
Career Track Position: Giving someone their start on a career as a federal Archaeologist. Applicant could then become a SCEP student while in graduate school preparing them for a permanant full time position as an Archaeologist.
Complete description of work: Archaeology technicians assist professional archaeologists with on-the-ground field studies to identify cultural, historical, and paleontological resources. Work may involve conducting inventories; compiling and interpreting collected data; researching reference materials; writing reports on inventory activities; or preparing documents for determination of eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places. The work is performed in an indoor office setting, and outdoors in rugged terrain and variable weather conditions, and requires physical exertions. The individual should be capable of working alone, or with other people, during the day.
