Solar survey finds, returns missing WWII-era dog tag

Something caught Julie Roy's eye while the archaeologist was surveying a desolate patch of desert for a massive solar plant in Blythe.

Recording a series of foxholes, she saw something shiny.

“It was a dog tag with a person's name,” Roy said.

Turns out, the tag belonged to Pvt. Ova Napier, who lost it sometime between 1942 and 1944 at the massive World War II Desert Training Center that used to be there.

The tag was found in December, but it wasn't until May that Napier's family members were identified.
