Attention excavators!
2nd Annual Online Excavation Outreach Contest
Enter the online contest and be recognized for your public outreach efforts.
Does your excavation team take part in public outreach? Tell us about it!
The AIA is holding a contest to recognize excavators who are
making efforts to reach out to the public. We know that many of you
include outreach and community involvement in your field work and
research and we want to give you the opportunity to share your work with
all AIA members.
To enter the contest, tell us about your public outreach
activity in 100 words or less and upload a photo to accompany it. We
will list appropriate entries on our website and ask all AIA members to
vote for their favorite project.
Deadline: January 30
Voting: February 1-7
Prizes: A free year of membership (including ARCHAEOLOGY
magazine), two free registrations to the 2013 Annual Meeting in Seattle,
and publicity for your project.

Last year's winner, Fort St. Joseph Archaeological Project (Michigan)
A major project goal
of the Fort St. Joseph Archaeological Project since excavation began in
2002 is to make archaeology accessible to the public. Every year the
project holds summer camps for middle school and high school students,
teachers, and lifelong learners as well as a university level field
school. An annual open house features living history re-enactors,
lectures, informational panels and displays, site tours, music, food,
and
ongoing excavations and has been attended by over 10,000 visitors since
2006.
