When to apply to jobs?
Jonathan.Crise
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could give some insight on when to apply for field/lab tech jobs for a soon-to-be graduate. I'll be graduating this May with a BA in Anthropology/Archaeology. Is it too soon to begin contacting employers? Obviously I cannot apply for jobs that begin before my graduation, but would it be a good idea to start sending out some resumes/CVs for when I do graduate? I don't want to waste anyone's time having them go over the CV of someone who doesn't have a degree yet, but I also don't want to wait til it's too late and positions are filled.
Any input would be appreciated.

Now!! I am doing the same thing, I will have my master's in May. I think its always best to start applying early, at least start emailing any prospective firms and asking if they will have work coming up. Its always best if you can go in person if there are any around you. Just let them know when you will be graduating, what is most likely to happen is they will say "well we might have something going on this season" and may ask you to send in your resume again.
The field is inundated with unemployed techs and the market is pretty tough, you might better your odds getting your name in the water and talking to the companies so they can put a face/personality with the resume.

I will echo Dwarmour there.
Now. Today.
Companies will be in full gear by May for the Summer-Fall dig season and filling out their rosters for big projects. Send it in.

Not a bad idea to follow up with an e-mail closer to your date of availability.
