PROJECT TITLE: Archaeobiology Collections Move
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The intern will work directly with our zooarchaeological collections located at the Museum Support Center (MSC) in Suitland, Maryland (a free shuttle service is provided from the National Museum of Natural History). This project entails the moving and organization of faunal skeletal assemblages from around the world, some dating as early as the Pleistocene epoch, and gives a great opportunity for firsthand museum curatorial experience as well as an introduction to megafaunal anatomy and animal domestication in the ancient Near East.
QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to individuals pursuing a career in Archaeology or Anthropology with a basic knowledge in osteology, preferably animal anatomy. The intern must be able to handle fragile bone material and demonstrate an eye for detail. Applicants should be physically fit as this project requires some heavy lifting and the ability to climb ladders.
