question for everyone regarding the website

We're developing a mobile phone app that will tell you the second a new job is posted to archaeologyfieldwork.com (we all know how quickly some of the field positions fill up!).
A few questions for everyone:
What kind of phone do you have?
Would $4.99 be a reasonable price to ask (trying to cover various dev charges on our end)?
Thanks for your input,
Jennifer

Two questions is this going to be a one time fee or an annual price? Second will it be developed for androids and iphones ( i vote for the droid) ?

Jessica, this will be a one time only purchase. We're trying to determine the interest so we can decide which phone to offer the app to first. Ideally I would like to see it on both Iphones and Androids.

It'd be great if you could make it for the Kindle as well (I have the Kindle Fire), and I'd be happy to pay 4.99 for an app! Otherwise, right now the phone I have doesn't have internet access, and it's about 3-4 years old (Verizon's enV).

Yes the Kindle Fire should be covered, as it runs on Android.
I feel your pain, as I've had a horrible Verizon Razzle for years (though finally upgrading to a smart phone now that I'm employed F/T and can afford the data plan!).

Thanks. Still working out some of the costs and logistics. Unfortunately the $4.99 may have to be an annual charge. Developing an app is a lot more expensive than I imagined!

For me it is Android all the way (though I'm typing this on the work i-gadget). When it comes to paying for an app, though, it really comes down to what it does for me. I have paid only for a handful of apps and, then, only because they significantly improved my workflow or were required for work (e.g., LogMeIn Ignition for remote access to work resources). To learn of the latest job? I tend to check daily and to conserve battery life by turning of push notifications so... A feed app would not overtly appeal.
On the other hand, I do appreciate the service. If it came down to a choice of getting the app or watching AFW disappear, I would get the app.
