Temporary instructor for the 2012 Summer B term archaeological field school for Georgia Southern University.  Responsibilities included the creation and execution of a research design geared towards intensive survey of the Lincoln Trail Site, a Late Mississippian village located in Bryan County, Georgia.  During the survey, I acted as field director and instructor for a crew of three field school students and four volunteers.

Responsible for directing field crews during Phase I, II, and III level archaeological investigations and preparing final reports to be submitted for agency review.  I was also responsible for the development of research designs and budgets prior to the initiation of the fieldwork, editing and reviewing reports and other documents prepared by my colleagues, and overseeing the artifact analysis conducted in ESI’s main laboratory in Jacksonville, Florida.  At this job I have become adept at the analysis of aboriginal material culture of Northern Florida and Coastal Georgia and both Spanish and British colonial artifacts.  I was responsible for the processing, analysis, and cataloging of such artifacts and have become familiar with procedures for dealing with the office of the SHPO, Florida Master Site File, Bureau of Archaeological Research, and the Georgia Archaeological Site File.  I regularly used database programs such as Microsoft Excel and Access to catalog artifacts and during interpretive stages of report completion.

Served as an undergraduate field assistant applying knowledge of archeological techniques during limited excavations at a St. Johns II period ceremonial center.  Performed shovel testing and excavation of 1 by 2 meter test pits.

Classification and typology of pottery sherds from the Shields and Grant mound excavations.   Specific emphasis on identifying exterior treatments and temper of aboriginal pottery.

 

Specialized Skills

 

Adept at using all programs within the Microsoft office suite including the more advanced database functions of Excel and visual functions of PowerPoint.  I am also experienced in designing custom database tools within Microsoft Access to aid in specific situations as they arise. 

 

I am proficient in the use of ESRI ArcGIS  and Surfer mapping software to make maps and graphics; and integrate the more advanced GIS database functions of the software with customized Access databases. 

I also have experience using Leica terrestrial LiDAR equipment and post-processing using Cyclone and Cyclone II.
