FIELD ARCHAEOLOGISTS – IOWA, OHIO, INDIANA, PENNSYLVANIA

The Louis Berger Group, Inc. (Louis Berger) is currently seeking qualified applicants for Field Archaeologist positions to work on upcoming projects in eastern Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, eastern Pennsylvania, and other locations as may be needed. Some of these projects will begin immediately after Labor Day.

B.A./B.S. in Anthropology or Archaeology and archaeological field school required; previous field experience highly desirable. This work will most likely lead to more work on one of Louis Berger’s projects in the same or other regions.

DESCRIPTION
Under close supervision, field archaeologists will be responsible for accurate and complete implementation of basic archaeological field techniques to test designated project areas for archaeological deposits, collect samples, and record field results.

 TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Testing and excavating of designated areas and archaeological sites
    Screening soil matrix for archaeological evidence
    Collecting samples as directed
    Completing field forms, drawing sketch maps, preparing profile and plan view field drawings
    Completing field inventory forms of recovered artifacts and samples
    Washing, bagging, and labeling artifacts as directed
    Other field, lab, or office-related duties as assigned
    Perform work in a variety of environmental settings, including fields, woodlots, urban areas, roadway corridors, on military bases, etc.
    Working under close supervision on all aspects of assignments
    Typically reporting to a Crew Chief, Field Supervisor, or Principal Investigator

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field
    Completion of an archaeological field school OR demonstrated prior field experience
    Must be able to stand or kneel for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
    Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather
    Ability to walk/hike in rugged and rough terrain a must
