Digs in THE ROMAN TERMAE in DIOCLETIANOPOLIS and educational trip to TURKEY


The course offers a combination of theoretical lectures supported by practical classes and field work in one of the most impressive Late Roman towns in Bulgaria - Diocletianopois. The main goal of the course is to make students familiar with history and archaeology of the Late Roman period (4th - 5th century AD) and the beginning of Byzantine civilization and Early Christian culture and art.

The course consists of three parts:

1. Field practice at Roman Termae in Diocletianopolis. (Introduction to Archaeological Field Methods and Techniques).

2. Theoretical lectures (Introduction to the Late Roman History and Archaeology).

3. Educational trip to Istanbul - the ancient capital of Byzantine Empire Constantinople.
