Minimum Requirements:    •    High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years study in anthropology, archaeology or related field or demonstrated equivalent. 
•    Minimum of one year of experience in the supervision, in some capacity of archaeological field crews in Phase I, II and III investigations. 
•    Minimum of two years experience in laboratory artifact processing (washing, cataloging, marking, etc.), or artifact analysis. 
•    Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to travel and drive regularly, often long distances. 
•    Must be available to frequently travel to out of town projects for various lengths of time.
•    Ideal candidate must have knowledge of basic field excavation techniques, ability to process (wash, catalog and mark) recovered archaeological artifacts, properly fill out field and laboratory forms, perform extensive manual labor including excavation with shovels and moving buckets and wheelbarrows filled with dirt. 
•    Must be able to extensively perform bending, kneeling standing and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. 
•    Must have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, prolonged walking and standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
•    Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. 
Job Description:    URS is a leading provider of engineering, construction and technical services for public agencies and private sector companies around the world. The Company also offers cultural resource management services for the U.S. federal government, state and local government agencies, Fortune 500 companies and other multinational corporations. The Cultural Resources Division of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Archaeological Crew Chief for immediate permanent employment in the Burlington, New Jersey office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in cultural resources management, specific to conducting field investigations, artifact analysis and report preparation. URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. Some of the projects the incumbent can look forward to include Phase II and III investigations for the I95 Corridor project in Philadelphia, PA; Phase I and II investigations for various pipeline and transmission projects in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey; various Phase I and II investigations in New York City; and Phase I and II investigations in the Hudson River Valley, New York.
Will help supervise crew in conducting archaeological investigations/excavations; in screening soil deposits; in taking accurate field notes; in drawing accurate profiles and plan views; in recording archaeological field data; in the use digital camera; in processing artifacts (washing, marking and cataloging) and in performing basic analysis of artifacts; and in re-bagging and re-boxing artifact collections for final curation and in performing basic research on manufacturing processes as it relates to recovered artifacts. In addition, the position requires organizational and logistical capabilities for in field archaeological investigations.
Under the supervision of an Archaeological Supervisor, supervises field technicians, collects and inspects field records and artifacts. Also helps in the preparation of reports and other documents. The position also works under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager when performing duties in the laboratory. Must be able to work effectively in both the field and laboratory as part of a team and communicate clearly while directing Archaeological Technicians.
