Assist the historic preservation crew with a variety of tasks which may include woodworking, carpentry, painting, trail maintenance, fabrication of historic replicas, rock work, and other maintenance or preservation duties; assist with interpretive and special event programs (possible).  One major project will be to assist with the construction of a trail boardwalk and working with volunteers in this effort.
Location Description
You will be living in the Boone/Blowing Rock, NC area of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a mountainous area in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation exist, including hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, white water rafting, fishing, and camping. The location is the historic Moses Cone Estate which includes numerous lakes/ponds, trails, and historic structures.

Educational/Recreational Opportunities
Intern can attend any park programs conducted by NPS staff and may assist in special events. Intern will be given opportunity to work with resource management staff. Numerous recreational opportunities exist in the area.

Due to mountainous terrain, a bicycle may not be appropriate transportation. Historically, interns with vehicles are more satisfied with their ability to seek after-hours recreation and food.
Housing or Stipend Provided?
Yes
Housing will be shared in either two or three bedroom house. You may have to share bedroom with another seasonal of the same sex. House residents share kitchen and open spaces. Furniture is provided. You will also need own linens and household/cooking equipment, such as pots/pans, scrub brushes, etc.
