JOB SUMMARY:

The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 2 temporary positions at Lyndon B.  Johnson National Historic Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: February 2015
The Johnson City/Stonewall area is located in the south central part of Texas in what is known as the Texas Hill Country. The spring wildflower season draws thousands of visitors who enjoy area attractions and scenic drives throughout the countryside.  It is a rural area. Population of Johnson City is approximately 1,300. The altitude is approximately 1,500 feet above sea level. Summers are hot, daytime temperatures average from 90-100 degrees F. Winters are mild, highs averaging 50-60 degrees F with lows occasionally dipping into freezing.  Shopping, medical, recreation and school facilities are available in Johnson City as well as the nearby communities of Blanco, Fredericksburg, and Marble Falls. Many more opportunities are available in the cities of San Antonio, located approximately 60 miles south and Austin, the State Capital, located approximately 50 miles east. Area monthly rental rates are from $700-$900.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Conducts basic research of topics related to the life and legacy of Lyndon B. Johnson for the purpose of providing interpretive programs, both orally and/or in writing.  Presents a variety of formal and informal programs including orientation talks, education programs, conducted walks, and tours of historic homes, using established outlines and under the direction and coaching by higher-graded employees and supervisors.  Informs visitors about park facilities and resources.  Performs tasks associated with the operations of a front line information center on a day-to-day basis including:
-Answering visitor questions
-Operating audio-visual equipment
-Assisting with and participating in fee collection activities
-Conducting cooperating bookstore sales
Provides assistance in connection with one-time or annual celebrations related to the programs and themes of the park and assists in the operation of special events.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:   The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
