Position Information: This is a temporary seasonal position not to exceed 1039 hours in six months.
Work Schedule - Work schedule is expected to be full-time generally during normal business hours, but some overtime may be required for response to spills or similar emergencies.  Weekends are required. Season is expected to be June - August, with the possibility of intermittent employment through September.

Incumbent serves as a Park Guide representative at contact stations.  Incumbent answers routine questions asked at the Ranger Station, providing visitors with complete and accurate park and area information.  Incumbent describes interpretive programs, explains regulations, and provides directions.  Remains attentive and courteous to everyone.
Responsible for carrying out recurring tasks such as stocking handouts and desk supplies, and keeps areas organized and clean.
Assists other staff in carrying out assigned duties related to ranger station programs and operations. 
Work may include but is not limited to describing ranger programs to visitors; collecting and entering traffic counter data; light custodial duties such as sweeping or vacuuming; operating a cash register and handling money; daily cleaning and maintaining bronze cultural resources; assisting with visitor programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing and walking for long periods of time and lifting moderately heavy items is required.  Some driving of passenger vehicles may occur.  Light grounds work such as raking and sweeping.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors and outdoors, subject to weather and terrain variance and biting insects.  Working conditions inside occur under conditions similar to that of an office.  Incumbent may be subjected to heat, noise, and stress associated with a heavy visitation operation.
AREA INFORMATION: Saint Croix Island International Historic Site is administered by Acadia National Park.  It is located outside of Calais, Maine in the community of Red Beach.  Saint Croix Island was first settled in 1604.  The Island is not accessible to the visitor, but the National Park Service maintains a Ranger Station, and an interpretive trail and viewing shelter on the mainland.  Temperatures average in the 70's during the summer and low teens in the winter.  Park headquarters is located about three hours from Saint Croix.  Calais provides most of the essential amenities (groceries, churches, clothing, schools, and medical services).
