JOB DESCRIPTION
Public History is looking for experienced historical researchers to conduct supervised historical file and document review in Halifax.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum two years’ experience conducting historical research AND an undergraduate degree or higher in Aboriginal Studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Archival Studies, Canadian Studies, Geography, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, Law, Library and Information Sciences, Political Science, Sociology or similar
OR
A total of five years’ experience conducting historical research
SKILLS REQUIRED
English – oral, written, and reading comprehension
French – reading comprehension an asset
ABILITIES REQUIRED
Ability to read historical handwriting of various types and qualities (late 19th and 20th century documents)
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to understand and apply prescribed scope of relevance
Ability to maintain focus for extended periods of time
Ability to sit for extended periods of time
Ability to work in communal work spaces
Ability to move archival boxes between carts and work tables
HOURS OF WORK
Standard work day is 7.5 hours, exclusive of breaks
COMPENSATION METHOD
Hourly wage
