The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 7 temporary positions at Minuteman Missile National Historic Park .  Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for extension if workload and funding allow.  Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: May, 2015.
AREA INFORMATION: Minuteman Missile National Historic Park is located in southwestern South Dakota 75 miles east of Rapid City (population 57,000), and 17 miles from Wall, Kadoka and Philip.  Limited grocery shopping, service station, K-8 school, and post office are located in Interior, 9 miles from Minuteman Missile National Historic Site.  Shopping, medical and dental facilities and schools K-12 are available in Wall, Kadoka, Philip and Rapid City.  The area is a beautiful place to live and raise a family but winters can be harsh with occasional cold temperatures, high winds, and blizzard like conditions.  Summers can be hot and dry with temperatures topping 100 degrees.  For additional information, contact ((see listing))

MAJOR DUTIES: Primary duties consist of preparing and presenting an interpretive guided tour of a Cold War military facility to small groups and providing information and informal interpretation at the project office information desk and other park locations. Secondary duties include handling visitor service requests such as reservations and information requests, assisting with routine museum resources inventories, and supporting other interpretive programs under the direction of higher graded park staff. Selectee must be able to function and maneuver in closed and confined spaces and will be required to climb a 40 foot ladder.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Standing for long periods of time, walking for distances up to six miles daily, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items in a repetitive motion is required.  Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.  Extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland fire fighting and other emergency response duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is performed indoors at the visitors center as well as in outdoor areas resulting in exposure to extreme temperatures, rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight.
