JOB SUMMARY:

The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 1 temporary positions at Steamtown National Historic Site. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2015
Position is located at the National Park Service, Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, P A. Position offer to the selected applicant will be tentative pending a successful completion of a background investigation.
Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) is on lands formerly comprised of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad yard. Steamtown NHS is located in northeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles from Wilkes-Barre, hospitals, recreation facilities and entertainment are located throughout the surrounding area. Climate range 10-20 degrees in the winter months, and 90 degrees in the summer (at times high humidity).
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Conducts guided tours of small size and pre-established programs that are repetitive in nature. Staffs the park's visitor center desk and answers telephone inquiries. Informs visitors about park facilities and resources.  Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in connection with interpretive material.  Responsible for collecting appropriate fees at park entrance station following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc. Incumbent will also be required to ride in trains.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:  Employee will be required to work weekends, holidays and on occasion special events that take place in the evening hours.
