The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 3 temporary positions at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, Harrison, Nebraska.  Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: 04/2015
Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is located 25 miles south of Harrison, Nebraska, on the Niobrara River in the northwestern part of the state.  The park features quarries that contain numerous, well-preserved mammal fossils from the Miocene Epoch and the Cook Collection of pioneer ranching and Plains Indians artifacts from the early reservation period.  Summer temperatures are generally in the 90's; and days are generally sunny and dry, with occasional afternoon showers.  Winter temperature will occasionally drop below zero, with varied amounts of snow fall.  The park is 50 miles from Scottsbluff, Nebraska which is a regional shopping, commercial air services, and medical services center. 
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

The selectees present guided walks, studio talks, and other programs that are short in duration. Work in the park's Visitor Center and Museum; greet visitors with prepared orientation information, and provide information and directions. Open and close facilities; maintain supplies and brochures about the Monument and surrounding attractions, sell Cooperating Association merchandise. Complete forms for lost and found, daily reports, and routine used logs; handle telephone inquiries, radio calls, and messages from information. May present prepared curriculum-based education programs for grades K-8. Carry out elements for Junior Ranger program.  Assist with special events. Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
