The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 10 temporary positions at Voyageurs National Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2015
Voyageurs National Park is a 218,000-acre water-based park established to protect the geology, scenery and historic voyageur waterway system along the United States/Canadian border. The park is located near International Falls, Minnesota (population approximately 6,000) and Kabetogama, Ash River, and Crane Lake, Minnesota. The park is adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Daily mean temperatures average a comfortable 70 degrees with low humidity in the summer. Fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities are the dominant recreational activities. One two-year college, schools (K-12), a hospital and medical facilities, churches, movie theater, and shopping are located in the community of International Falls.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Incumbent will work with Interpretation staff as a member of the Interpretation & Visitor Services Group. Responsible for visitor center operations including staffing the information desk, answering visitor questions, explaining regulations, answering the telephone, stocking brochures, and operating audio-visual equipment. Researches, prepares and presents formal interpretive programs (e.g. tour boat programs, hikes, slide presentations, canoe programs). Roves visitor center areas and assists visitors. Conducts sales for the cooperating association bookstore, takes reservations, fee collection, and assists and help plan special events and programs. Special projects may be assigned that require research, writing, or graphic work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
