JOB SUMMARY:

The Seasonal Recruitment Operations Center is currently accepting applications to fill up to 3 temporary positions at Richmond National Battlefield Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time.  Appointments under this announcement are eligible for extension if workload and funding allow.  Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: May, 2015
AREA INFORMATION: Richmond offers a wealth of amenities not found among other East Coast municipalities. Richmond is enhanced by several first class museums and prominent universities, its own symphony and numerous theater companies and art galleries. Summers usually average 85 - 98 degrees with humidity. Winters usually average 35 - 55 degrees with frigid nights and a couple of snowfalls a year. Schools, malls and medical facilities are available. Mountains, beaches and Washington, DC are within a two hour drive. 
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.

MAJOR DUTIES: This position functions as a primary contact person for visitors arriving at the Richmond National Battlefield Park and the Maggie L Walker National Historic Site and provides visitor services to a wide range of diverse park visitors.  Duties include operating information desks in the parks' visitor centers; providing information about the park and park programs, the Civil War, facilities in the Richmond metropolitan area, and the life and accomplishments of Maggie L. Walker.  Incumbent may also deliver standard park and facility tours and deliver occasional interpretive talks as needed.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The work requires standing for long periods of time, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items.  Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is performed indoors at the visitors center as well as in outdoor areas resulting in exposure to extreme temperatures, rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight.
