Position Objective
Support Metro-North's Environmental Compliance & Services Department by assisting with tasks involving the Historic Preservation and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Regulatory Compliance.
Responsibilities
Documentation and cataloging of historic resources at Metro-North: The intern will visit historic facilities and document character defining features and architectural resources through written descriptions, historic research and photography. 
Documentation and cataloging of ADA accessibility and amenities at Metro-North: Using MNR's ADA inspection checklist, the intern will perform field visits and update MNR¿s existing ADA database. 
Assist with ADA and historic preservation review of ongoing design and/or construction projects, basic review of customer information related to accessibility (timetables, internet, etc) and assist with historic research and compiling of information for design submittals to State Historic Preservation Office.  
Assist with tasks relating to environmental compliance as it relates to station and/or facilities planning or ongoing construction projects.  
Other duties as assigned by Director, Environmental Compliance & Services and Assistant Director, Planning & Design Compliance.
Required Qualifications
Interest in Historic Preservation, Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance and the Built Environment;
Some knowledge of architectural design and/or site planning preferred; 
Ability to perform field visits, document existing conditions, take measurements, photos, etc..; 
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word). 
Excellent research, writing and organizational skills 
Good communication skills
Required Education/Experience
Must have a Bachelor's Degree with major in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Planning, Engineering, Real Estate or another related field. 
Matriculated Graduate student majoring in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Planning, Engineering, Real Estate or another related field
Other Information
Must be available to work 35 hours a week from May 27th, 2015 to August 14th, 2015. Interns are only authorized to work during regular business hours. 
A background check is required. 
A medical exam will be required for selected candidates at our NYC facility. 
Periodic feedback/surveys and final project assignment will be required as part of the internship program. 
Students will be required to attend New Hire Orientation and Speaker Series meetings in our NYC facility. 
All interns are required to complete a Final Group Project and presentation.
