The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 4 temporary positions at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, NC. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for extension if workload and funding allow.  Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2015 
Guilford Courthouse National Military Park commemorates the Revolutionary War battle fought at the small North Carolina hamlet on March 15, 1781. The 250 acre battlefield park is located in a suburban area, approximately four miles northwest of downtown Greensboro. The park operates two visitor centers, and incorporates interpretive guided walking tours, tram tours and living-history into its visitor service program.
Greensboro, NC (Pop. 275,000) offers a wide range of cultural and recreational opportunities.  Numerous colleges, universities, and hospitals are located in the area.  Summers in Greensboro are hot and humid, with average high temperatures in the upper 80's.
Park housing may be available; nearby housing outside of the park is plentiful.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens. 
 
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

As a uniformed park guide at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, major duties may include, but are not limited to: Operating a Visitor Center information desk, greeting visitors, supplying brochures, giving directions, responding to questions and giving general information. Independently presenting interpretive programs, informational talks, and guided walking and/or vehicular tours to visitor groups. Providing information on current park events, projects, and policies, as well as giving updates on issues affecting the historical and/or
cultural preservation of the area. Operating a cash register in the visitor center, receiving money, giving change, keeping daily records, assisting with lost and found items, and performing administrative tasks. Providing safety information and general first aid to visitors; assisting with traffic control, setting up and staffing of special events.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The work requires standing for long periods of time, walking for long distances, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
