The reporting location for this position is the Office of Historic Preservation located in Sacramento. This position will work under the direction of the Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer, and under the lead of the State Historic Preservation Officer. This is a challenging job that requires excellent writing and organizational skills, as well as the ability to analyze data and effectively present ideas orally and in writing, and to work both independently and cooperatively with others, including outside parties, the individual staff this position supervises, and fellow members of the office’s management team. Preference will be given to candidates who meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in Archaeology (see Desirable qualifications include experience working with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, with the California Environmental Quality Act, and with California’s Native American tribes and the laws and regulations that address cultural resources of concern to tribes. The Office of Historic Preservation reserves the right to interview only those applicants whose applications show these qualifications have been met. This position may be downgraded for recruitment purposes. A TAU appointment may be considered. Some travel is required. State housing is not available.
