This position serves as the Site Manger of Duke Homestead State Historic Site in Durham, North Carolina.  The position supervises the daily operation, safety, and security of the Historic Site.  The position is responsible for the supervision of site staff, preservation of site features, historic buildings, grounds, visitor services and interpretation; marketing and publicity; planning for events and educational programming; research and compilation of documents; care of artifacts; daily facility environmental cleanliness; budget and payroll; purchasing of supplies, materials and equipment; supervision of all contractual agreements; supervision of on-site capital and repair projects; supervision of gift shop and deposits; and developing community support.  Work schedule will be Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Some holiday, evening, and week-end work can be expected. 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Strong knowledge of North Carolina, Victorian-era, and tobacco history is essential.  Requires knowledge of community outreach and fundraising; excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, local organizations, and governmental organizations; knowledge of the principles and practices of business management.  The ability to perform research using primary sources is necessary.  The job requires the ability to occasionally stand or walk for long periods of time; and proficiency with computers and Microsoft word, excel, Photoshop, and Publisher is desired.  
 Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from a four-year college with a major in history or a field specifically related to the site of employment and two years of experience in managing the operation of a historic site; in historical research or interpretation, or in a field specifically related to the site of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
