JOB SUMMARY:

The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 1 temporary positions at Manassas National Battlefield Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2015
Manassas National Battlefield Park is located 25 miles southwest of Washington, DC and 5 miles north of Manassas, Virginia in Prince William and Fairfax Counties. This 5,100 acre Civil War battlefield preserves the sites of First and Second Battles of Manassas (Bull Run) in 1861 and 1862.  The Park Administrative offices are located 2.5 miles west of the junction of U.S. 29 and VA 234.  No public transportation is available.  All metropolitan area services and amenities are available.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Conducts basic research of topics for the purpose of providing interpretive programs, both orally and/or in writing. Presents a variety of formal and informal programs including orientation talks, environmental education programs, conducted walks, demonstrations and programs.  Informs visitors about park facilities and resources.  Duties are performed at visitor center and historical sites.  Incumbent educates self about park resources by reviewing published maps, park research materials, and other documents.  Provides assistance for special events and programs.  Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in connection with interpretive material, e.g., projectors, cassettes and video equipment.  May perform various administrative duties such as scheduling, gathering routine information for reports, compilation of statistical data, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines, carrying backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:   The work is performed in settings in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, e.g., high or low temperatures, confined spaces or adverse weather conditions.
