On-call Archaeologist

Aspen Environmental Group (Sacramento Office) seeks an on-call archaeologist with strong writing and reviewing skills for its growing cultural resources division, to begin work immediately. Aspen’s multidisciplinary staff provides environmental compliance, impact assessment, and mitigation services for a wide spectrum of energy and infrastructure projects ( aspeneg.com ).

This is a temporary, part-time to full-time position. Pay is commensurate with experience. Depending on performance and workload, there is the possibility of this position becoming permanent. The hours worked are flexible. The work performed will be on a variety of projects and may last six months or more.

This position is primarily office-based, however, periods of fieldwork and overnight travel may occur sporadically.

Responsibilities may include: authoring EIS/EIR sections and compliance documents such as treatment plans, memoranda of agreement, and programmatic agreements; technical review of compliance documents; and performing pedestrian surveys.

Minimum requirements include: BA or BS in Anthropology, Archaeology, or other closely related field, at least some graduate level education, and 5 years of experience. Master’s degree is desirable. Experience in California cultural resources management required. Must be familiar with applicable cultural and environmental regulations including the California Environmental Quality Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and Section 106 of the National Historical Preservation Act. Strong writing and reviewing skills are critical to this position.

The successful candidate will write well and work well in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. Must be local to the greater Sacramento Area.
