This vacancy is being advertised under delegated examining procedures. The vacancy is concurrently advertised under merit promotion (MP) procedures under vacancy announcement number 1365907.  Candidates who wish to be considered under both procedures MUST apply and submit a complete application package to each announcement.
The Northern Rockies Servicing Human Resources Office (NR SHRO) is currently soliciting resumes for the purpose of filling the permanent, year-round position listed above.  Work schedule is expected to be Monday-Friday, 7:30-4:00 with rare occasions for overtime.
AREA INFORMATION: Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site is located ΒΌ mile north of Deer Lodge, Montana.  Complete services are available in Deer Lodge, including schools, grades K-12; dental and medical facilities; and a hospital.  Colleges are located in Butte (37 miles), Helena (57 miles), and Missoula (82 miles).  The climate is very dry with moderate summers (rarely exceeding 90 degrees) and cold winters. No government housing is available; however, a variety of rentals and property for sale is available in Deer Lodge.

This position is under the Maintenance Division at Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historical Site.  The selectee will provide craft and technical preservation/stabilization support for structural investigations and monitoring necessary to maintain historic structures.  This involves investigating and recording data pertaining to historic structures to determine the physical condition of the structures; nature of past stabilization activities; formulating plans; establishing priorities; estimating costs; assembling work schedules; performing field examinations and testing to determine original materials; collecting and cataloging samples; and performing tests to enable replication of original fabric appearance as closely as possible.  Individual will perform masonry, carpentry, painting, roofing and other tasks as required on historic and non-historic structures.  Individual also serves as the Facility Management Software System (FMSS) coordinator for the site.  At the GS-09 level individual will work more independently and will provide training in the identification and repair of features in historic structures.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical effort is moderate to heavy.  This position requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials in excess of 100 pounds.  Individual is frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, or work in awkward positions.  Some sedentary work is also required.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work performed outdoors will occur under varying and extreme climatic conditions.  Work is performed in, on, and around deteriorating structures which may be hazardous.  Incumbent may be subject to soiling from dirt and chemical materials, insect bites, cuts, and bruises.  Work in an office environment is also required.
