Environmental Design & Research, Landscape Architecture, Engineering & Environmental Services, D.P.C. (EDR), a multi-disciplinary consulting firm based in Syracuse and Rochester, NY, is looking for experienced, team oriented archaeologists to support our Environmental Services Division.

 

Project Archaeologist

EDR seeks to add an experienced, versatile, team oriented Project Archaeologist to our Environmental Services Division. The qualified candidate will have 3-5 years of experience directing archaeological field projects in New York, the northeast, and/or mid-Atlantic states; strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to prepare cultural resources report; familiarity with both pre-contact (Native American) and historic-period archaeological sites and artifacts; and a working understanding of federal and state regulatory processes (e.g., NEPA, Section 106, Section 14.09, SEQRA). In addition, this position will require regular use of Trimble GPS, ArcGIS and office-based data processing, ability to travel (locally and out of state when required), ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather, physical endurance to conduct archaeological field surveys in remote and challenging environments, ability to carry equipment (shovel and screen, GPS unit, cameras) while conducting fieldwork, ability to read and understand maps, and ability to prepare field records and drawings. The successful candidate must also have strong leadership skills, work well with other disciplines in a team environment, and be able to negotiate multiple concurrent projects. Must have a minimum BA/BS degree (MA/MS preferred) in anthropology, history, or related field.  

 

Archaeological Field Assistants

EDR anticipates offering temporary (i.e., on a per project basis) employment opportunities to qualified Archaeological Field Assistants to conduct archaeological field investigations for upcoming projects in New York, New England, and/or the Mid-Atlantic States. Qualified candidates must have at least 1 year experience conducting Phase 1 archaeological survey work in New York, New England, and/or the Mid-Atlantic, the ability to travel (locally and out of state when required), ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather, physical endurance to conduct archaeological field surveys in remote and challenging environments, ability to carry equipment (shovel and screen, GPS unit, cameras) while conducting fieldwork, ability to carry equipment (shovel and screen, GPS unit, cameras, etc.) while conducting fieldwork, ability to read and understand maps, ability to prepare field records and drawings, a BA/BS degree in anthropology, history or related field, and completion of an archaeological field school. Preference will be given to candidates with diverse experience and/or skill sets that could support other types of work (e.g., wetland delineation, ecological survey, wildlife biology, visual impact assessment, etc.) within our Environmental Services Division.
