This is a full-time term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 3 years.
AREA INFORMATION: Pipestone National Monument is located adjacent to the city of Pipestone in southwestern Minnesota approximately 8 miles from the South Dakota border and 30 miles from the Iowa border. With an altitude of 1,600 feet, the area is high plains and solid farmland.
Summer temperatures average in the 80's with the high reaching 100 occasionally. Winters are cold and windy with below 0 readings and at times minus 30 to minus 40 degrees wind chill. All services are available in Pipestone or within commuting distance.   Sioux Falls, South Dakota is within a one-hour drive and would provide all the amenities found in larger cities. K-12 schools are available in the city of Pipestone (population 4,384).

DUTIES:

Duties include developing interpretive programs such as informational trail walks, visitor center displays, and off site interpretive programs. Employee will also provide visitor services interpreting the park's cultural, natural, and archeological features through talks, roving assignments, and outreach programs; working at an information desk; collecting fees; and assisting with resource management programs.  Employee assists in collecting visitation data, informs visitors concerning National Park Service regulations and policy.   Assist the Supervisory Park Ranger in planning for the new visitor center museum exhibits and actively participate with park staff in planning for the NPS Centennial.
