The Northern Rockies Servicing Human Resources Office (NR SHRO), in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming is accepting applications through USAJOBS, to fill two temporary positions as Museum Technician, GS-1016-07, within Yellowstone Center for Resources (YCR), Yellowstone National Park.  These positions will be working in Gardiner, Montana.
 
Positions under this announcement are limited to 1039 working hours (approximately 6 months), in a 12 month period.  Appointments may be terminated or extended any time depending on funding, work levels, employee performance, weather, etc.
 
These positions do not have promotion potential.
 
AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Gardiner, Montana is located 5 miles north of park headquarters in Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park. Elevation of Gardiner is one mile above sea level.. Temperatures vary from an average of 70 degrees in summer to sub-zero at times in winter. Schools are available in Gardiner, with kindergarten through 12th grade. Gardiner has community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, motels, and restaurants. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles.  
 
Federal government housing is not available.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of Yellowstone’s Supervisory Museum Curator, these positions will assist other staff which are responsible for Yellowstone’s large natural history collection.  Will perform conservator-recommended cleaning and monitoring of specimens to improve storage and preservation.  Will maintain, store, display and catalog artifacts and natural history specimens. Will perform housekeeping, environmental monitoring and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in museum storage and exhibit areas. Will assist with rehousing of natural history specimens.
 
Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
 
Official Duty Station: Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
 
Physical Demands: The work is partly sendentary with prolonged standing, walking and bending often required.  Heavy items (e.g., boxes up to 50 pounds) must be lifted or moved frequently.
 
Work Environment: Most of the work is peformed in a museum environment of exhibit and storage areas, workroom/laboratory, and offices.  Occasional work with materials which are dusty or stored with protective chemicals, may require the use of dust masks, gloves and/or other protective equipment (PPE).
