The Exploring Joara Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), organization founded in 2008 to support public archaeology  education and research in North Carolina’s western Piedmont region.  The foundation (EJF) works closely with archaeologists Dr. David Moore (Warren Wilson College), Dr. Robin Beck (University of Michigan), and Dr. Christopher Rodning (Tulane University).         

The EJF Staff Archaeologist works with the EJF Executive Director and Senior Archaeologist (David Moore) to meet the foundation’s public archaeology mission. This is a high profile position; in 2014, EJF programs reached more than 10,000 community members!

The EJF Staff Archaeologist’s primary responsibility is to direct the EJF Public Archaeology Program. The Staff Archaeologist:

1.       Develops and hosts classroom and field programs for public and home school groups, volunteer field and lab opportunities for the public, workshops for teachers, and a wide variety of miscellaneous public programming.     

2.  Coordinates development of an outdoor Archaeology Interpretive Center in Morganton featuring a small replicated 16th century Native American village.

Applicants should have at least a B.A. in anthropology, archaeology, history, historic preservation, or related field, and demonstrated experience in public archaeology or public history. 

Experience with Windows Office programs, various social media platforms, grant writing, and Adobe Design products such as Illustrator and InDesign is highly desired.

This is a three-quarter time position (with future potential for full time) with a salary range of $29,000.00 to $33,000.00 per year dependant on qualifications and experience.  A benefits package also includes a medical and dental insurance stipend in addition to salary.  The position begins July 1, 2015, but this date is flexible.
