About the Position:
This position serves as a professional Archeologist assigned to the Environmental Planning Branch, Regional Planning and Environment Division, With the responsibility for performing cultural resource studies in connection with planning, engineering, construction, and operation and maintenance projects in the Vicksburg District.

Conducts cultural resource surveys and possibly limited testing to identify resources within assigned project areas. Upon completion of field-work, analyzes recovered materials and prepares a written report of findings. Prepares National Register forms as needed. Coordinates information obtained from the survey with District archeologists. Completes all field-work, analysis, and report writing according to accepted and written professional standards and guidelines. Provides cultural resource input for planning studies and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS). Conducts literature/archival/records searches as needed to identify and evaluate known resources. Identifies potential problem areas and recommends solution or course of action. Compiles data necessary for and writes cultural resource sections and/or appendixes for planning study reports and EIS according to accepted standards. Reviews reports completed by contractors for technical and non-technical accuracy and clarity. Provides written comments of deficiencies/suggestions. Prepares text for non-technical publications for the general public of District cultural resource projects. Serves as Manager of assigned cultural resource contracts and purchase orders. Prepares scope of work and cost estimates for contracts and purchase orders. Works with the Vicksburg Consolidated Contracting Office in selecting the most qualified contractors. Serves as a member of the Evaluating Committee in selecting and negotiating with contractors. Accomplishes the day-to-day management of cultural resource contracts and purchase orders. Reviews technical work accomplished in the form of draft and final report to insure technical adequacy and makes recommendations through the COR/CO to the contractor concerning technical and administrative features of such work.
