Archaeological Monitors - San Diego, California

Title: Archaeological Field Monitor
Employment Status: Project Hire
Compensation: Commensurate with Experience. Relocation will not be reimbursed. 

RSP is currently seeking an Archaeological Field Monitor for a project in San Diego, California. We are looking for a qualified person in the area, as lodging/per diem are not authorized. Project duration is six to eight weeks. Work may be full time or part time, depending on the construction schedule. 

Minimum Qualifications

•    Master’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic archaeology, or a related field. Project is on federal lands so individuals with BA/BS degrees do not meet the minimum qualifications for the project. 
•    Minimum of two years of professional CRM experience as a field archaeologist, including construction monitoring experience
•    Field experience or completed field school focused on archaeology of Southern California. San Diego experience is highly valued. 
•    Valid driver’s license, good driving record, reliable vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

•    Valid HAZWOPER 40HR Certificate (RSP will not reimburse for refresher course)
•    Cross-trained in paleontology

Working Conditions include the possibility of performing fieldwork in remote locations. Therefore, the following physiological requirements are necessary for these positions:

•    Moderate light lifting (30 lbs) with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
•    Repetitive motion of upper body and limbs
•    Reaching above shoulders
•    Use of fingers (dexterity and normal sensation required, use of both hands required)
•    Extensive walking over rough terrain
•    Standing in limited spaces for extended periods
•    Use of both legs (prosthesis acceptable if full mobility is demonstrated)
•    Near sighted vision acceptable if vision correcting device is used
•    Far-sighted vision acceptable if correctable to 20/40
•    Depth perception, color vision and hearing normal (aid permitted)
•    Ability to detect odors
•    Clear speech

This project entails working outdoors and may involve the following working conditions: 

•    Excessive heat
•    Excessive continuous noise
•    Slippery and uneven walking surfaces
•    Working around machinery with moving parts
•    Working around moving objects or vehicles
•    Working in close proximity to others
•    Protracted or irregular hours of work
•    Working with shovels or other hand tools
