Company Profile
Resource Sciences and Planning (RSP) provides environmental compliance and consulting services throughout California. Sector experience includes public utilities, transportation, land development, oil and gas, renewable energy, water and landfills. Services include paleontological and cultural resource surveys, construction monitoring, CEQA/NEPA documents, mitigation plans (development and implementation), third-party review, environmental awareness training programs, and GIS database management and mapping.
Location and Hours
RSP is hiring qualified archaeologists throughout the state of California, to provide service to our clients for on-call contracts. While our goal is to provide our employees with regular employment, full-time hours are not guaranteed.  Some weeks may entail part-time hours, while other weeks may require work in excess of 50 hours. Work hours will vary based on available projects, employee availability, and employee skillset, expertise, and experience.
Responsibilities
As a field technician you will:

•    Perform cultural resources monitoring at construction sites to implement mitigation measures to avoid impacts to cultural and paleontological resources
•    Conduct archaeological and/or paleontological field surveys
•    Record data for scientific and compliance purposes using company forms and established field methodology
•    Prepare daily progress/monitoring reports as needed by the project
•    Use GPS equipment (Garmin/Trimble) for field data collection
•    Work independently or as part of a team
•    Conduct field surveys as needed
•    Complete other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic archaeology, or a related field
•    Completed coursework in geology/paleontology
•    Minimum of two years of professional experience as a field archaeologist, including construction monitoring experience
•    Field experience or completed field school focused on archaeology of Southern California
•    Valid driver’s license, good driving record, reliable vehicle
•    Computer literate
•    Articulate verbal and writing skills

Preferred Qualifications

•    Valid HAZWOPER 40HR Certificate (RSP will not reimburse for refresher course)
•    Experience in the environmental consulting industry, preferably in Southern California
•    Professional GIS certification and/or two years’ experience working with ESRI GIS software
•    Technical writing expertise for archaeological and paleontological resource management reports and monitoring reports

Working Conditions include the possibility of performing fieldwork in remote locations. Therefore, the following physiological requirements are necessary for these positions:

•    Moderate light lifting (30 lbs) with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
•    Repetitive motion of upper body and limbs
•    Reaching above shoulders
•    Use of fingers (dexterity and normal sensation required, use of both hands required)
•    Extensive walking over rough terrain
•    Standing in limited spaces for extended periods
•    Use of both legs (prosthesis acceptable if full mobility is demonstrated)
•    Near sighted vision acceptable if vision correcting device is used
•    Far-sighted vision acceptable if correctable to 20/40
•    Depth perception, color vision and hearing normal (aid permitted)
•    Ability to detect odors
•    Clear speech

Environmental Conditions will include working indoors and outdoors and may involve the following working conditions: 

•    High altitude
•    Excessive heat or cold
•    Excessive humidity or dampness
•    Excessive continuous noise
•    Slippery and uneven walking surfaces
•    Working around machinery with moving parts
•    Working around moving objects or vehicles
•    Working in close proximity to others
•    Protracted or irregular hours of work
•    Working with shovels or other hand tools
