DESCO Seeking Archaeological Principal Investigator (PI)

DESCO is a small woman-owned business located just outside of Magnolia, TX, comprised 
of a close knit group of professionals who provide quality environmental services to both public 
and private sector clientele across the U.S., primarily in support of research, development, 
energy, and infrastructure projects.

We are looking for an individual with leadership capabilities and the ability to conduct and
manage projects ranging in size from very small investigations to large scale surveys.

Responsibilities for the position:

  • Expand DESCO’s client base for cultural resource management through business development

  • Determine High Probability Areas for project APE’s using standard accepted methodologies

  • Draft proposals and technical reports

  • Lead/manage field projects of all sizes and scopes in the field or remotely

  • Conduct field work 25 – 50% of the time with extensive travel to project locations across the continental U.S.

  • Communicate regularly with clients via email, meetings, and phone conferences

  • Creatively solve problems to optimize a client-favorable outcome

Qualifications for the position:

  • Master’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology

  • Five (5) years of supervisory fieldwork experience preferred (individual experience will be considered on case by case basis)

  • Demonstrated completion, at a PI level, of a minimum of one (1) testing or data recovery excavation project

  • Emphasis in North American Archaeology and a current technical specialization (e.g., lithic analysis, GIS, architectural history, etc.)

  • Listed as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or qualified for RPA status (must meet U.S. Department of Interior standards for PI position)

  • Must be able to obtain a Texas Antiquities Permit

  • Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the management of cultural resources in Texas and/or surrounding states; additional experience in other states is a plus

  • Exceptional technical writing skills and a record of completing and editing technical reports in an efficient manner

  • Experience with content editing of reports

  • Experience with project scheduling and creating budgets for projects related to cultural resources

  • Ability to work independently as well as oversee projects of various sizes by working closely with Field and Project Managers

  • Commitment to maintaining fiscal and scheduling responsibilities for projects of all sizes and scopes

  • Adept at working with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agency representatives through excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Team-orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills

  • Experience managing project geospatial data through ArcGIS

  • Experience with NEPA and Section 106

  • Experience involving PI-level review of projects with historic resources a plus
