About the Job
Position: Historical Preservation Specialist
Location: Trenton NJ
Duration: 6-12 months
 
Pay rate: $30.00 per hour on W2
 
Position Description:
Reviewing infrastructure projects funded under the NJEIFP to determine their potential to affect cultural resources
Working with environmental and engineering staff in the Bureau of Environmental & Engineering Review to understand the nature of construction for assigned projects
Conducting documentary, historical research using both print and electronic sources to determine if historic properties are located in a project’s Area of Potential Effects
Recommending methods to use to identify historic properties within a project's Area of Potential Effects
Suggesting measures to avoid, minimize, and/or mitigate adverse effects on historic properties
Occasional field visits to project sites, and Coordinating with the New Jersey Historic Preservation for projects that require review under the New Jersey Register of Historic Places Act. Applicants must meet the professional qualification standards as defined in the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation, including a degree in archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, architectural history or a closely related field.

Additional Information:
The position is for approximately 35 hours per week, with a rate of pay of $30 per hour, and is located in Trenton. 

The Municipal Finance and Construction Element of NJDEP is looking for archaeologist or architectural historian (ideally someone with experience in both fields) who meets the Secretary of the Interior’s professional qualification standards for a temporary position.
