2016 Archaeology Field School at James Madison’s Montpelier

 

Spent five weeks excavating a slave dwelling in the South Yard of Montpelier. Tasks included troweling, shoveling, dry screening, taking soil samples, photography, drawing plan and profile maps, recording data on both official paperwork and in a field journal, water screening, various laboratory tasks, engaging with the public by talking with site and lab visitors as well as being in charge of the site’s Instagram account for a day. Had to learn to identify 18th and 19th century artifacts. At the end of five weeks, wrote a technical report detailing and analyzing the stratigraphy, features, and artifacts from the site.

2012-2013 Bamburgh Castle Research Project & Tel Dor Excavation Project

Worked as part of an archaeological excavation. Communicated, coordinated, planned with others and utilized critical thinking skills.

Utilized strong communication skills, solved problems, dealt with complaints, planned and organized in coordination with others, and came up with creative ways to entice customers and make their stay enjoyable thus bolstering negotiation and persuasion skills. Also regularly worked banquets which further required the ability to develop plans, organize effectively, work with others, and use time management skills in order for banquets to function as the customers wished.

June 2010-October 2010; July-Aug. 2015 Blue Sky Trucking, Office Assistant

Developed strong communication skills both in working with co-workers and dealing with customers. As an office assistant, I performed essential office tasks such as customer service, printing, copying, and editing but also spent time using Google Earth to update and re-draw company maps for the area it serves. During first period of working here, also helped out in the company garage, learning basic mechanic skills.

·         Food handling Former holder of a food handler’s license which was allowed to expire.

·         Excellent physical conditioning Able to complete 8+ hour days working outdoors without issue, regularly complete 10+ mile runs, and able to lift over 200 pounds.
