Job Responsibilities:
The Position
Golder is currently seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to fill the role of an on-call Junior Archaeologist. This posting is for an hourly position. The candidate will work with members of the Socio-Cultural Group from across B.C., assisting with the design, implementation and execution of projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable and diverse work experience.
We are presently looking for an individual to work mainly out of our Vancouver office and lab with the expectation that the candidate is available for fieldwork opportunities throughout the province, if presented.
Responsibilities will include laboratory and office-based tasks such as artifact preparation, cataloguing, analysis, database entry, site form preparation, and technical report writing. It is expected that the candidate will be able to successfully work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment. Field-based tasks will include archaeological survey and assessment, excavation and site recording. The candidate must be willing to travel, work in remote areas and may be required to be away from home for extended periods of time.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
* Minimum undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or equivalent;
* Knowledge of BC archaeological site types;
* Strong laboratory skills in artifact identification, analysis, cataloguing and data entry;
* Attention to detail;
* Excellent physical ability and willingness to perform field work in a variety of locations and conditions (i.e., rough terrain and inclement weather), including extended travel periods;
* Proven oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
* Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently;
* Solid aptitude in MS Office;
* Experience working with First Nations is considered an asset;
* Valid BC Driver’s license (Class 5) or equivalency; and
* A commitment to health and safety leadership.
