Associate Environmental Specialist - Archaeologist-1602229
Description
 
NextEra Energy Resources is one of the largest wholesale generators of electric power and renewable energy from the wind and sun in North America.
 
Support senior archaeologist and other senior staff in matters related to environmental permitting with a focus on archaeology and cultural resources.  Review consultant work related to archaeology and paleontology on NextEra development and construction projects, including projects in wind, solar, transmission, and gas infrastructure throughout the US and Canada.  Assist with strategy, mitigation and risk management/avoidance on archaeological issues.  Help with process development to ensure consistency of cultural resource survey and analysis approaches across all regions. Provide quality assurance reviews and technical assistance during field work and agency reporting as necessary to minimize cost and or potential schedule delays.  Support agency and stakeholder interactions regarding cultural resource issues. Facilitate state site file access agreements with state archaeological information centers and support research and analysis of confidential cultural resource information.  Support cultural resource dialogue and “early contact” with relevant Indian Tribes.  Support tribal cultural awareness education efforts. 
This position is based in the NextEra Juno Beach, Florida office. 
 
Required Qualifications
 
Bachelor's Degree:Required;Experience:0+ years;
 
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Anthropology/Archaeology and/or History
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time; often on short notice
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
Relevant archaeological field experience
 Preferred Skills:
Archaeology expertise is the primary need with paleontology expertise a secondary need
Thorough understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106) and its implementing regulations (36 CFR 800)
Strong written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated experience using ArcGIS and other ESRI software
Able to respectfully consider Indian Tribe/Aboriginal cultural resource preservation perspectives
Comfortable speaking in public forums
Work Schedule
 
Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 with extended hours as necessary
