Senior Archaeologist (Atlanta)

ERM is seeking a Senior Archaeologist with experience in at least four of the following geographical areas: Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Midwest, Mid-South, Great Plains, and Southwest. This individual will be responsible for directing and coordinating large complex projects primarily associated with energy-related capital development and compliance initiatives, including midstream oil and gas pipelines and electric transmission lines. These projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. They require task management skills and a thorough understanding of regulatory, public outreach, engineering, and right-of-way issues.

The position requires that the individual be permanently based out of our Duluth, GA, office. Duluth is a suburb of Atlanta.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·        Produce cost estimates, write proposals, and work closely with the ERM proposal team on Request for Proposals (RFP’s).

·        Work with ERM project managers and clients to coordinate project-related tasks and provide guidance on tactical, strategic, and regulatory issues for the duration of the project.

·        Participate in agency consultations, client contacts, and site visits; and participate in project management responsibilities, monthly progress reports, for example.

·        Assist with the development of project plans and schedules.

·        Work with ERM field coordinators to mobilize and organize field crews, monitor fieldwork progress, and adjust the field crew size and location according to project needs.

·        Work with the Lab Director to organize artifact analysis needs and schedule.

·        Senior report author and responsible for delegating report components to the relevant staff.

·        Project work will involve travel (up to approximately 30 percent of the time) for field work, site visits, environmental training, project team meetings, and/or agency meetings.  

REQUIREMENTS:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, or related field.

·        7 years of experience as a Field Director with at least three (3) of those years serving as Principal Investigator.

·        Meet the Secretary of the Interior Standards (36 CFR 61) in archaeology, and should have demonstrated skills in CRM, including supervisory experience on Phase I, II and III projects.

·        Direct experience working with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and multiple State Historic Preservation Offices on projects involving Section 106 and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) consultations and compliance.

·        Extensive experience supervising multi-state pipeline and other linear projects.

·        Thorough working knowledge of GPS technology, GIS, and related programs such as ArcMap, TerraSync, and Pathfinder Office.

·        Thorough working knowledge of MS Office Suite software programs.

·        Strong oral and written communication skills, detailed oriented, and recognized organizational abilities.

·        Self-motivated, quick learning, and flexible with a common-sense approach to conducting business and workload management.
