Archaeologists with and without GIS Experience in Southern California


PanGIS Inc. seeks both field archaeologists and an archaeologist with GIS experience.  We have multiple ongoing projects throughout Southern California that require additional staff.   

Job Descriptions

The archaeologists will work on inventory, research, evaluation, and mitigation projects. Project tasks include research, literature reviews, record searches, field surveys and excavations, and field monitoring. This job is not restricted to one single type of work and a variety of tasks may be assigned in order to meet the company’s needs.  GIS tasks will include, but are not limited to georefencing, digitizing, creating maps, creating and editing geodatabases, processing GPS data, GIS analysis, and joining tables to spatial data.


For both positions-

                    BA or MA in anthropology or archaeology

                    Two years of experience is preferred and experience must be in California

                    Familiarity with cultural resource laws and regulations – CEQA

                    Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and their own vehicle

                    Ability to take direction from senior staff.

For GIS position-

                    2 years of experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS version 10

                    Experience using GPS data to create site maps

                    Experience making mapbooks

                    Understands georeferencing and digitizing

                    Detail oriented and precise

                    Ability and desire to do both archaeological field work and GIS is a plus

                    Programming skills a plus

For Archaeological position-

                    Competency in field work, with great note taking ability

                    Construction monitoring experience

                    Your own field kit, including digital camera for photos

                    Ability to travel and conduct field work for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions and diverse terrain, and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds

                    Ability to collect GPS data on various platforms

                    Experience with performing record searches a plus

                    DPR form experience


Competitive pay rate is commensurate with education and experience.
