We are looking for an Archaeologist to assist in our Cultural Resource Division.  The person will be responsible for performing field surveys, managing field data, curating collections, and preparing written documentation of cultural resources studies and impact assessments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct records searches at the California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS) Information Centers (IC) and review regional literature, historic maps, historic aerial photographs, and assessor parcel information.

  • Conduct cultural resources field activities, including surveys, and construction monitoring.
  • Review, tabulate, and plot field data to complete all applicable DPR 523 record forms
  • Conduct cultural resource record searches at CHRIS facilities.
  • Prepare written documents based upon data interpretation for cultural resources impact assessments and mitigation.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or history 

  • 5 Years’ field experience in cultural resource survey and artifact identification pertaining to sites, features and artifacts of prehistoric and historic time periods.
  • Cross training in paleontology, geomorphology and soils a huge plus.
 General understanding of the principles and practices of the environmental consulting industry including:
  • Familiarity with sections relating to cultural resources in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the California Public Resources Code (PRC), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), and the Mitigation Guidelines of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontologists.
  • Demonstrate proper field work protocols and techniques.
  • Proven ability to create results and complete assignments in a timely fashion, many times under strict deadlines, while maintaining positive attitude and professionalism.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Has highly efficient and productive working habits and can handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and verbal communication skills.
  • Have strong technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office software applications, especially Word and Excel; as well as Internet usage.
  • Familiarity with Trimble R1 GPS Receivers in combination with Terraflex software a plus.
