US-CA: Architectural Reconstruction Field School 2017 - Academic Credit through UCLA


Project Overview

The historic theaters in Downtown Los Angeles are part of a rich cultural legacy that provides insight into the architectural practices of the early 20th centuries.  This project investigates how these monuments were constructed, decorated, and used through in-depth archival research, photogrammetric modeling, and a variety of interactive visualizations including virtual and augmented reality platforms and network analyses. Students will work with technologists,  learn about information professionals, and architectural historians best practices and standards associated with these research methods and will participate in outreach activities aiming to involve local enthusiasts, experts, and communities

You will be responsible for finding appropriate housing during the field school. Once notified of acceptance into the field school you will be sent an overview of recommended housing options near UCLA. The teaching assistants will work with you and provide assistance as you select and secure housing. A 30-day TAP card will be provided on July 2 to facilitate traveling to and from your housing to UCLA and to Downtown Los Angeles during site visits. You will be responsible for obtaining breakfast each day. We will meet at UCLA at 8:30 Monday-Saturday. A light lunch will be served at 12:30pm. At 5:00 pm we will get together in the lab to briefly discuss the day’s work. Every work group will give a quick summary on their results, problems and successes. Work in the labs and library concludes each day at 5:30pm. On Mondays we will eat dinner as a group and review the overall team progress and next steps. The rest of the week you will be responsible for securing your own dinner.
