The Pacific West Region is recruiting for summer seasonal Archaeological Technician, GS-0102-05 and GS-01012-07 positions intended to assist permanent staff with archaeological field work.
These are TEMPORARY seasonal positions/appointments not to exceed 6 months (1,039 hours) work in a service year.  Approximate dates of employment will vary between park sites depending on funding, weather conditions and visitation statistics.  Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending on work availability and funding.  Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. These positions have no promotion potential; if you want to be considered for a higher grade, you must apply for the higher grade.

Duties
GS-05: As an Archeological Technician, you assist in project surveys and site documentation, monitoring ground disturbing activities, small-scale excavations, and re-visiting previously-identified archeological sites to conduct condition assessments and update site forms.  You must have experience using digital cameras, GPS, and other archeological methods and tools, and documenting field survey methods and results. You will gather data, perform data entry, and assist in completing state site forms and contribute to cultural resource survey reports relating to prehistoric and historic archeological sites.  
GS-07: In addition to the duties listed above you may have additional responsibility for leading crews in archeological surveys, monitoring ground disturbing activities, and re-visiting previously-identified archeological sites to conduct condition assessments and update site forms.  You will provide general technical archeological assistance in a variety of areas related to or impacted by the archeological function, including Section 106 compliance, clearance, and planning; archeological assessments, evaluations, and field inspections; etc.
