The Archaeology Program of the Natural and Historical Resources Division is responsible for preserving, studying, and interpreting the archaeological resources of Prince George's County within the Department of Parks and Recreation. Staff archaeologists conduct their work through excavations, exhibits, and public programs for the benefit of the citizens of Prince George's County.
 
This position will assist the Archaeology Program manager. Responsibilities include supervising and instructing field/lab technicians, interns, and volunteers; coordinating artifact processing and analysis; teaching the public about archaeology during site tours and off-site public programs; conducting archaeological monitoring, report review, and report writing as needed; and other duties as assigned.
 
Preferred Applicant Will Possess:
A Master's degree and meet the qualifications under the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation; have experience working in the Middle Atlantic region; excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse public; ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and lift 40 lbs of equipment. Specialized knowledge and experience in archaeological field crew supervision, artifact analysis, public programming, historic interpretation, and GIS is preferred. Candidates are required to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays, and Sundays as needed.
 
 
 Minimum Qualifications:
Six years of experience and specialized education and training in skill area or college graduate with two years of teaching experience in specific skill area; applicant must possess appropriate certifications when applicable to position vacancy.
