The Archaeology Program of the Natural and Historical Resources Division is responsible for preserving, studying, and interpreting the archaeological resources of Prince George's County within the Department of Parks and Recreation. Staff archaeologists conduct their work through excavations, exhibits, and public programs for the benefit of the citizens of Prince George's County.
 
This position will assist the Archaeology Program manager and additional Program staff. Job duties include: conducting archaeological field work, including excavation, recording, mapping, and interpreting of archaeology; archaeological laboratory tasks, including processing artifacts, conducting archaeological and historical research, cataloging and updating artifact database, and working with GIS database; public education programs and activities; supervising volunteers in archaeological field and laboratory work; and other duties as assigned.
 
Preferred Applicant Will Possess:
A Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field and experience working in the Middle Atlantic region; excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse public; ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and lift 40 lbs of equipment. Candidates are required to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays, and Sundays as needed.
 
 Minimum Qualifications:
College degree in appropriate field together with progressively responsible management supervisory, and administrative experience which is equal to the management and supervision of a major program or facility; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the applicant's ability to direct and be responsible for a major program and/or facility under a minimum amount of supervision.
