Job Title: Project Archeologist  

Hicks & Company Environmental/Archeological Consultants, an Austin-based firm, is currently seeking a highly-motivated and experienced professional to join our team as Project Archeologist. Applicants must have an M.A. degree in anthropology, archeology, or a related discipline, with experience in performing and supervising archeological survey, testing, and/or data recovery projects. The ideal candidate must meet the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards in Archeology. Experience in Texas archeology and adjacent States is preferred. Familiarity with the themes of Texas history and prehistory and interpretation of sites and artifacts found in all regions of the state is a plus. As the position will involve data analysis and technical writing, applicants will be asked to submit writing samples. Experience with NEPA, NHPA, and Antiquities Code of Texas guidelines, protocols, and coordination criteria are a plus. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with the ability to multitask.

Key Responsibilities:

 

·                     Conduct archeological fieldwork investigations;

·                     Prepare archeological reports on the results of fieldwork investigations, often as lead author;

·              Assist in the preparation and delivery of artifacts and forms for curation;

·                     Prepare final reports for delivery and compile and distribute pertinent data to clients and state agencies (e.g. GIS data to TARL, entering abstracts into the Sites Atlas);

·                     Assist in writing cultural resources background studies and constraints analyses for various NEPA documents.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

·                     At least two years of supervisory experience as Project Archeologist or an equivalent position;

·              Ability and willingness to travel;

·              Excellent writing and editing skills;

·              Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;

·                     Proficiency in using MS Office Suite and experience with database management;

·                     Experience with using GPS devices as well as the ability to interpret GIS data;

·                     Experience conducting archival research.
