Achill Archaeological Field School is Ireland's oldest and most established Field School. We provide archaeology courses for all levels, from beginner to undergraduate to our very popular trainee supervisor course. We are located on Achill Island on Ireland’s spectacular Wild Atlantic Way. Our beginner and intermediate archaeology courses provide a solid grounding in archaeology theory and practice, from experts in the field. Our modular Archaeology Field School Courses are aimed at undergraduate and graduate archaeology and anthropology students. We have the archaeology experience and the necessary field school infrastructure to provide the best possible academic and technical training for students throughout Ireland, the UK, USA and Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world. These include our two-, four- or six-week modular courses which qualify for academic credit from NUI Galway (National University of Ireland). For a list of schools and colleges that have received academic credit through our courses please see the International University List. These courses are also open to students and other participants who do not wish to enroll for academic credit.

In 2017 we will be working on two fantastic projects. In May and June we will be at Keem Bay on the western-most tip of the island excavating at the site of a pre-Famine village. In 1848 this site had 40 buildings, which were cleared in the 1850s to create an 'improved' agricultural landscape. This will be our fifth season at Keem.  For July and August we'll be returning to the iconic Slievemore mountain to continue excavating at the multi-period 'Cromlech Tumulus', a Middle Bronze Age house with late medieval hut sites.
