Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking an Archaeologist to conduct archaeological monitoring and documentation in the District of Columbia. The fieldwork is anticipated to last for approximately 200 days; however, additional work may be available following this period. Fieldwork is anticipated to begin in May 2017.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, reporting to the JMT Senior Archaeologist bi-weekly, and/or in the event of discovery. The preferred candidate will enjoy a variety of working conditions ranging from field efforts to office analysis; report writing; and agency interactions. 

Responsibilities will include:
 Archaeological fieldwork (monitoring), field documentation (profile drawings, plan maps, etc.), and daily monitoring log relating to the identification and evaluation of archaeological resources
Successfully interact with construction contractors, JMT project team members, and other project stakeholders when necessary
Prepare an archaeological report and/or prepare archaeological site forms related to monitoring activities

Required Skills
Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards 36 CFR 61 as an Archaeologist. Qualified applicants must have experience conducting archaeological monitoring
Knowledge and understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 regulations
Ability to commute to the project location each day
Required Experience
A Master’s Degree from an accredited school in Archaeology, or related discipline with a focus in North American archaeology
An RPA is preferred, but not required; however, ability to qualify for RPA (SOI qualified) is necessary
Experience in eastern United States (or Mid-Atlantic) archaeology required
Minimum 5 years’ experience preferred
Applicants must also have experience conducting background research, organizing and completing field work and writing reports; experience in Phase I, II and III fieldwork and reporting
Experience working with federal regulations including Section 106 and NEPA
Experience managing staff (including field crews and laboratory staff)
Experience with Microsoft Office, GIS, and GPS applications
Experience working with federal agencies, particularly the NPS
Experience working with Historic Preservation Offices, particularly the D.C. HPO
The preferred candidate should enjoy working in the outdoors as required to complete job tasks
Working Conditions
The job will require but may not be limited to certain physical demands while performing duties in the field. These physical requirements will include the ability to walk, stand, kneel, or bend for extended periods of time and be able to carry field equipment and supplies long distances. Field work may be conducted during any time of the year and may occur in a variety of weather and climate conditions, as needed. The candidate is not required to perform field work in hazardous weather conditions.
