The ASMIS seasonal position will focus on updating and adding new entries for archaeological sites in the ASMIS inventory for the Northeast Region National Park Service.  Based in Richmond, VA and Lowell, MA both positions will work closely with the Regional ASMIS Coordinator.  Daily work will include archaeological site condition assessments in National Parks, site location mapping, and data entry to the ASMIS database.


GS-07 2017 Pay Rate:
Richmond, VA: $20.02 per hour
Lowell, MA: $21.47 per hour

Duties
The Seasonal FY2017 ASMIS position is designed to contribute significantly to updating and adding new information to the existing NER ASMIS inventory. This position will provide support to the regional ASMIS coordinator to gather current condition data on archaeological sites registered in ASMIS and identify and record new sites in ASMIS. It includes gathering current geographic information concerning the extent and context of archaeological sites as well as the extent and context of threats and / or disturbances to archaeological sites. Included in the work is photographic documentation of sites, assistance in entering current backlog of sites into AMSIS, update archaeological information in ASMIS, catalog collections gathered as a result of ASMIS assessments, and contribute to GIS project development.
Work tasks will include:
1. Assessment of the ASMIS inventory data completeness, quality, and spatial accuracy and development of maps and strategies for updating individual Park inventories.
2. On site condition assessments including GPS mapping.
3. Archival research.
4. Strategizing with regional ASMIS coordinator to develop a protocol for updating and increasing spatial accuracy of ASMIS records.
5. Contribution to or creation of a basic Park GIS including ASMIS information.
Individuals will be required to submit work updates to the NER regional ASMIS coordinator weekly.
ASMIS positions will be geographically based strategically within the Northeast Region for relatively easy access to multiple National Parks. One position will be in Richmond, VA. The second position will be based in Lowell, MA.
