Southern Maryland Consulting: Archaeological Technical Writer

Joldbuck

The Archeological Society of Maryland, Inc. (ASM) is an all-volunteer non-profit dedicated to promoting, facilitating, and enabling the preservation, discovery, academic study, appreciation, and stewardship of public and privately-owned cultural resources, historic structures, and archaeological sites in the State of Maryland by supporting the technical, scholarly, and intellectual work of academics, professionals, and students, in activities related to its mission.

The Archeological Society of Maryland, Inc., received a grant through the National Park Service Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Fund, (administered by the Maryland Historical Trust,) to conduct excavation and documentation on three imminently threatened archaeological sites in Anne Arundel, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties, Maryland.  As part of this documentation, a business school style case studies (Project) is required concerning each of the sites. A technical writer will develop a business school style case study for each site tested and assessed that shall not be less than two or more than twenty pages in length.  This individual will have access to the draft/final reports for each site (as available) as well as the report of the geophysicist, soil scientist, or geologist that assessed the vulnerabilities of each site.  The technical writer will also interview each principal investigator in depth before a draft case study for each site is written.  It is expected that the awardee will develop a PowerPoint presentation that may be used to highlight the problem of natural hazards to cultural resources for a variety of non-technical audiences.  The schedule, content, and approach for the case studies and other deliverables will be determined and mutually agreed upon by the awardee, the MHT, and the ASM during the kickoff meeting and will be included in the Statement of Work for the agreement between the parties.

Please contact ASM Grants Manager, Claude Bowen, at claude.bowen@comcast.net to receive a copy of the RFP for this work.
